Capsicum Annuum var. Glabriusculum

Garden of Apologies
50,000 - 100,000 SHU
Chiltepin

The only wild native chili plant found in the USA, Chiletepin has been called the mother of all peppers. Tiny pods with a smoky flavour. Usually sun dried and used as powder.

Capsicum Frutescens

Garden of Apologies Tabasco
30,000 - 50,000 SHU
Tabasco

Tabasco peppers were originally from Mexico, but were made famous in by Edmund McIlheny and his OG Louisiana hot sauce. Frutescens plants have pointy leaves and conical peppers that grow pointing skyward.

Capsicum Pubescens

Garden of Apologies
30,000 - 100,000 SHU
Rocoto, Yellow

Known as Rocoto in Peru, Manzano in Mexico and Locoto in Bolivia, these thick walled peppers look like apples (hence the name "apple chile"). Pubescens plants are unique with hairy leaves and black seeds, and they tend to thrive in colder climates. I grew them in 2022, but with the heat and drought, I didn't get any viable fruit.
